ICN Annual Meeting 2018: a Special Report

The International Cleantech Network (ICN) held its 2018 Annual Meeting from February 26th to March 2nd in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, US in conjunction with the UNC Cleantech Summit. The purpose of the meeting was to enhance the cluster collaboration between members of the network, to further develop the network’s strategic direction and to demonstrate the ICN value proposition towards American cleantech organisations.

On Tuesday 27th February, ICN members participated actively in cluster-2-cluster sessions, and in a number of work group sessions with the aim to develop a clear implementation of the ICN strategy for 2018-2019. The emphasis for ICN the next two years is now to deliver genuine business opportunities for companies from the clusters whether that be through strategic partnerships, through COSME matchmaking sessions to China and the United States or via major tenders or other opportunities identified and shared through the clusters of our network.

On Wednesday 28th February, ICN engaged with a number of American cleantech organisations from Boston, New York, Raleigh, San Diego, Austin, Los Angeles and Seattle. This encounter engendered many interesting and thought-provoking discussions regarding the cleantech scene in both the United States and on the global scene, and provided the possibility for ICN to demonstrate its value proposition towards an American audience at the impressive headquarters of SAS in Cary, North Carolina.

On Thursday and Friday 1-2 March, ICN held its 13th Board Meeting and its annual General Meeting, and participated in keynote addresses and panel debates at the UNC Cleantech Summit.

Overall, the annual meeting demonstrated the importance of effective international cluster collaboration in the green economy and how both clusters as well as cleantech companies can benefit from the global framework that ICN provides to its members.
